SATs Preparation

 

Here are some useful websites, tips and tricks to help you prepare for your SATS in May. 

If you would like any more work to go over a specific curriculum area we have looked at in class, please do not hesitate to contact me!

  • Super Spelling Brilliant website to get your spelling to the next level!
  • Spellingframe Free spelling game with every word from the curriculum included. Great practice; words are broken down into syllable to help learning.
  • Revision Loads of interactive stuff to work on in English, Maths and more, e.g. find out about Britain in the 30s and World War 2 and get ahead for our next topic. Includes links to other websites; some may require Java or Flash. Wide range of abilities. (Pages for saintambrosebarlow no longer work.)
  • Maths SAT prep Interactive SATs papers; check your answers as you go along. Some VERY challenging questions!
  • Read Theory Interactive reading comprehension practice. Needs a user name and password (lonsdaley6). First pre-test will find a suitable level for you to start at. Then you will earn points and achievements for your work. Performance is tracked automatically.
  • Reading Practice Multiple choice comprehension exercises using recounts of life during WWII. Good practice in retrieval, inference and deduction. Quite challenging text level.
  • Comma-Castle!! A fun quest game with multiple-choice questions on bits of grammar. Get all the way through and make your character dance - hilarious!
  • Punctuation and commonly confused words University of Bristol webpage giving an explanation of the confusion with there, their and they re with a link to a short on-line exercise. Additionally, many links to pages about other easily confused words and proper use of punctuation, again with interactive exercises to try. Do not be put off if it looks a bit wordy; there is some good learning here.
  • Bitesize The BBCs KS2 revision website.
  • Tables Practice Times tables are one of THE most important tools for maths. Games here to help learn them, speed recall them, work with factors and multiples, plus games for many other maths topics. You can also select higher or lower age groups.
  • ActiveLearn link A link to the ActiveLearn login page. You will need your username and password with 'thlo' for the school code. Remember to turn off pop-up blockers to allow activities to load in a new window.
  • Spelling Practice Interactive spelling with 15 stages. Try it for five minutes a day to sharpen up your knowledge of spelling.
  • Doorway Speller Another look, cover, write, check activity site. A wide selection of word families to work on. (Not tablet friendly.)
  • Arcademics Lots of games in Maths and English skills - many in a race or space invader style. Quick thinking required! Some games invite you to choose a name - use a nickname - and select: 'Play Offline'; 'Play Now'; 'Start Game'. American site created by the University of Kansas Education Department.
  • SATs arrangements A fairly digestible overview of the new arrangements for statutory end of Key Stage assessment.
