Spellings

 

Spellings will be given out at the beginning of each half term with the date of when each set needs to be practised. The children will be tested on the set of weekly spellings on a Friday.

Homework in Year 2

 

We are incredibly grateful for all the support at home.  Just a short amount of time each day supporting your child with reading, spelling and homework makes a huge difference to their confidence and understanding.  Please speak to Mrs Bates or Mrs Phillips if you have any questions regarding homework in Year 2.

 

Children will receive alternative Maths or English homework. These will go out every Friday and due in the following Wednesday in order for it to be checked.  Children need to be completing these as independently as possible, with some help if required.

Spelling Websites

Here are some games to help the children with their spellings in general.

  • Grid Club Spellbound Improve spelling with three different strategies: listening and responding; recognising visual patterns; researching with dictionary. Select age and level before starting.
  • Little Bird Spelling - Tricky Words Children in school learn to spell some word through the use of phonics. Some common words are 'tricky' and children need to learn them by heart. This game uses the words listed in the UK National Curriculum as being 'Common Exception Words' i.e. tricky words. Choose a year group, then choose bird box to select your word list. Arrange the letters in the correct order to spell each word. The robins will take the bread away when you get it right.
  • Look, Cover, Write, Check Look, Cover, Write, Check A great way to practise phonics, spelling patterns or the common exception words listed in the UK English Curriculum.
