8.9.2023

The children have returned to school this week with lots of energy and enthusiasm. We have been focusing on the Colour Monster and have spoken a lot about our emotions.  In Art, the children have been creating their own colours and assigning them emotion. They had a lot of fun.

In Maths, we are learning about Place Value. Place value is the value of each digit in a number. For example, the 5 in 350 represents 5 tens, or 50; however, the 5 in 5,006 represents 5 thousands, or 5,000. It is important that children understand that while a digit can be the same, its value depends on where it is in the number. We were also reminding ourselves that zero is used as a "placeholder": it shows "there is no number at this place", like this: 602 - This means 6 hundred, no tens, and 2 ones.

In English, we have been learning to infer emotions from what we read, think of ways to keep ourselves calm when we are feeling angry and make our very own colour monster.

This Term in Science, we are learning about sound. In our lesson this week, we conducted a sound survey in and around the school. we visited different places and listened to what we could hear. We then graded the sounds on how loud they were using a scale of zero to five.  We were lucky enough to hear a range of birds and a helicopter.
