Homework in Year 1

We are incredibly grateful for all the support at home. Just a short amount of time each day supporting your child with reading, spelling and homework makes a huge difference to their confidence and understanding. Please speak to a member of the Year 1 if you have any questions regarding homework in Year 1.

Children will receive alternative Maths or English homework. These will go out every Friday and due in the following Wednesday in order for it to be checked.  Children need to be completing these as independently as possible, with help if required.

One Big Cat Collins Reading book will be sent home every Wednesday and needs to be returned on a Monday. In addition the children will choose a 'sharing for pleasure' book from our school/classroom library to share together at home. This will also come home on a Wednesday. 

Phonics - Little Wandle Weekly Overview - On Fridays we will send home an overview of our Little Wandle Phonics programme.  We encourage the children to practise these at home throughout the week as the impact of regular practise is hugely beneficial. 

Spellings - On a Friday we will provide a list of spellings to focus on from our year 1 common exception word list.  All of these words will feature throughout the week during our daily phonics lessons.  On Tuesdays there will be an informal check in school.
