Summer 2025

Week commencing 12th May 2025

Dear Families,

This week in maths, we have been learning to tell the time to the nearest minute. We now know that the short hand on a clock tells the hour and the long hand tells the minutes. We have also been learning about past and to the hour.

In English, we have begun writing our non-chronological report about the rainforest. We are using our research to write factual statements that our reader will find interesting.

This week was One Picture week, in art we looked at the painting Canaletto, A Regatta on the Grand Canal from 1740. We then studied the work of abstract artist Petri Mondrian and selected the canal to draw and colour in his style. The children really enjoyed drawing the vertical and horizontal lines and adding primary colours to them.

Week commencing 6th May 2025

Dear Families,

We have had a wonderful time this week celebrating 80th anniversary of VE day.  We began our day with a very poignant online VE day assembly. We then went on to make carrot cookies, which most of us found delicious. After that we create a picture of the blitz using paint and black card to make a city outline of London.  In the afternoon we sang wartime songs and Year 5 helped us to learn the Lambeth dance. We finished our day by playing 1940's games such as: marbles, pick up sticks, Jacks, skipping and hopscotch. The children really enjoyed the games.

Week commencing 28 April 2025

Dear Families,

This week, we have been learning how to apply our knowledge of fractions to find a unit fraction and non-unit fraction of a set of objects. Next week, we will be learning about money. If you have an opportunity to show your children money and possible use some in a shop that would be beneficial to their learning.

In English, we are reading and researching lots about the rainforests including their flora and fauna, in preparation for writing a non-chronological report it.

We had a lot of fun in science this week, investigating what materials are magnetic. We discovered that some metals are magnetic but at the moment we are not sure which metals.
