Week commencing 13th April 2026

 

This term in English, we will be reading Alice in Wonderland. To begin our writing unit, the children are creating a non‑chronological report about the author, Lewis Carroll. This week they have been busy discovering lots of fascinating facts about Carroll and his life. Why not ask your child to share something interesting they’ve learned about him.

 

In Maths, we have begun a new topic on Mass and Capacity. The children have been learning how to read simple scales, make sensible estimates, and choose appropriate units of measurement. Developing accurate measuring skills is an important foundation for understanding and tackling problem‑solving tasks.

 

In Science, we have been learning about Marie Curie and her groundbreaking work with X‑rays. The children were fascinated to discover how her research helped doctors see inside the human body for the first time. They especially enjoyed creating their own X‑ray of a chosen body part, using their scientific knowledge in a fun and creative way.

Week commencing 20 April 2026

 

This week in English, we have been gathering and organising our knowledge about Lewis Carroll in preparation for writing a biography of his life. The children have worked carefully to present their facts in chronological order, making excellent use of fronted adverbials of time to structure their writing.

 

In Maths, we have been learning about equivalent masses, as well as comparing, adding, and subtracting different masses. The children have been practising how to read scales carefully by looking at the number of intervals between each labelled value.

 

When counting up in kilograms and grams, the children are learning that to read a scale accurately, they must first work out the value of each interval. For example, if a scale shows 0 g to 1000 g with 5 intervals, they can divide 1000 g ÷ 5 = 200 g, meaning each interval represents 200 grams.

 

In PE, we have been practising holding the cricket ball correctly, using a side‑on stance, and rocking back before throwing using the figure‑of‑six technique. The children have also been working on aiming accurately, focusing on control and consistency in their throws.
