Spring Term

Spring Term Topic Web

Stafford Castle Trip

On Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th March, KS1 visited Stafford Castle as part of our History Topic where we are learning all about different castles. We had an amazing day and enjoyed a walk around the castle where we saw the different features and got to explore the ruins. We were able to make our very own coins, make brass rubbings and try on some traditional clothing.

Science Week 2026

06.03.26

We celebrated national science week and the theme for this year was 'curiosity: What's your question?'

Our science topic is all about animals and humans so year 1 and 2 decided they wanted to explore our forest area hunting for mini beasts and different types of birds. We then linked this to the artist Andy Goldsworthy who makes art out of nature.

We got creative and curious to how the nature could create different art as well as being curious about our forest school environment!

Science - Biomes

This half term, our Science topic has been about Animals and Humans. For a half term project, children were asked to create their own animal biomes and bring them in to share with the class. We have been blown away by the amazing effort from all of the children who took part. It has been amazing to showcase the different biomes and the hard work that has gone into making them.

Mrs Hewkin kindly came to judge our biomes. It was a very tough decision as all of the entries were amazing but well done to our winners.

1/2G - Ozzy

1/2M - Gracie

1/2T - Matthew

English - Instruction Writing

Our book focus this week is the Gingerbread man. In our lessons we will be reading the story in small groups, learning new words to widen our vocabulary and retrieving information.

We have also looked at a non-fiction piece of reading which was instructions on how to make gingerbread people. We had to carefully follow the instructions in the correct order to be able to successfully make the biscuits. We had so much fun!

Jacob: I loved having a go at mixing the ingredients.

Daisy: I liked it when we put our hands in the dough to make it stick together.

William: I liked cutting the shapes into the dough.

Layla: The best part was eating them!

PE - Gymnastics

Our PE focus during spring 1 has been gymnastics. We have learnt how to do different balances such as patch and point balances. We have also learnt how to do rolls and jumps.

Willa: I have been working on the pencil jump with pointed feet.

Hudson: I practised a 4 point balance on my hands and feet.

Josie: I know that I can do a 5 point balance as your head counts as a point.

Margaret: I learnt how to do a teddy bear roll. We used it in a routine after a jump and a balance.

Maths - Exploring 2D and 3D shapes

This week in Maths, KS1 have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes. We had lots of fun completing the different activities and learning how to recognise the different shapes.

Computing - Programming Robots

This half term, KS1 have been learning how to program robots using the BeeBots. We have learned what an algorithm is and how to create a sequence of commands to get our BeeBots to go where we need them to get to. We have also had a go at giving each other instructions to direct each other around the classroom. It has been lots of fun!

Geography - Wonderful Weather

This half term, KS1 have been learning all about the weather. We have been learning about different weather symbols and comparing the weather in the UK to different parts of the world. This week, we worked in pairs to create our very own weather forecast. We used vocabulary such as 'North', 'West', 'East' and 'South' as well as discussing if the weather was 'inland' or 'coastal'.
