Week commencing 8th December 2025
Dear Families,
This week in English, we proudly published our non‑chronological reports on the Iron Age. We have now begun an exciting new unit on poetry, where we have been reading a variety of poems and exploring their features. Together, we have analysed how different poems make us feel and discussed the techniques poets use to create meaning and impact.
In Maths this week, we have been exploring the connections between the 3, 6, and 9 times tables, as well as the 2, 5, and 7 times tables. By identifying the patterns and links between these tables, we are developing strategies that make it easier to recall our times tables and apply them confidently in our maths work.
In Science this week, we had great fun using our body parts to recreate the sounds of a storm. We then designed and made our own instruments, carefully analysing how each one produced its sound. Finally, we combined our instruments to create the effect of rain, experimenting with how the sound could build from gentle rain to a heavy downpour back to gentle rain again.
Week Commencing 1 December 2025
Dear Families,
This week in maths, we have been exploring the 2, 3, 4, and 8 multiplication tables. We practised skip counting to help us recognise and predict the numbers in each sequence, and we looked closely at the patterns these tables create. By spotting connections and using these patterns, we have been developing strategies to learn our times tables more confidently.
In English, we have been developing our skills in writing paragraphs for our non‑chronological report about the Iron Age. We have focused on using a range of techniques to add interest and hook the reader, while also including plenty of fascinating facts to inform them. By combining these skills, we are learning how to make our writing both engaging and informative.
In Design and Technology, we have been learning key sewing skills. We practised threading a needle and explored different stitches, including the running stitch, back stitch, and cross stitch. We discovered that tying a secure knot can be a little tricky but with patience and practice we are improving our confidence and technique.
Week commencing 24th November
Dear Families,
This week in maths, we have started a new topic of multiplication and division. We haveen learning to use arrays to represent multiplication and repeated addition. We have been developing our understanding of division through grouping and sharing.
In English, we have begun to write our non-chronological report beginning with our introductory paragraph. We have been trying to hook our reader in with an interesting fact to make them want to read more.
In computing, we have been planning our podcast on a topic of our choice. We have been learning how to overlay and import sounds so that our podcast can include jingles, background music and people talking.
Week commencing 10th November 2025
Dear Families,
This week in maths we have been developing our understanding of column subtraction across the boundary of 10, 100 and 1000. Please see below the method we are using.

In English we have been using TiPToP to help us use paragraphs when writing Chapter 4 of Stig of the Dump, Gone a Hunting. We have also been learning to use inverted commas to show direct speech in our writing.

We had a fantastic time on Wednesday at the Wrekin Forest School. The children learned how to make an axe, make and cook bread over an open fire, use a bow and arrow (like Stig) to hunt as well as a whole host of outdoor activities that kept them so busy they didn't even notice the rain.
Week commencinging 13th October 2025
Dear Families,
This week in English, we have been writing our instructions on how to wash a prehistoric beast. We have been inventive with our equipment lists and have carefully used time conjunctions, adverbs, and imperative verbs to make our writing clear, engaging and easy to follow for our reader.
In maths this week, we've been practising column addition with bridging 10. We're getting used to the process and learning to remember to exchange correctly as well as add our exchange on afterwards to get the right answer. Below is an example of our method.

In PE, we've been learning to pivot in netball. Although it's tricky to apply during a game, we're now much better at stopping with the ball and are improving every session. We really enjoy playing a match.
Week Commencing 6th October
Dear Families,
This week in English, we've been exploring how instructions are structured and the specific language they use. We've used this knowledge to gather different sets of vocabulary like time conjunctions, adverbs and imperative (bossy) verbs that will support our writing next week, when we will be creating our own set of instructions on how to wash a prehistoric beast of our choosing!
In Maths this week, we have moved on to addition and subtraction. We have been adding 1s, 10s, 100s and 1000s, including across boundaries. To support our understanding, we've been using place value counters, Base Ten, and a place value grid. We're developing our awareness of which place value is likely to change, for example, when adding to the ones, we know the ones column and possibly the tens will be affected.

We put on our scientist hats this week to closely observe different animal scat! Using tweezers, we carefully analysed the contents to work out whether the animal was a herbivore, omnivore or carnivore. We then used clues from what we found to try and identify which animal the scat belonged to, some of our guesses were surprisingly accurate!
Week Commencing 22 September 2025
This week in English we have started a new text 'Stone Age Boy'. We are getting to know the book at the moment before writing it in our own words. We enjoyed acting out different scenes from the story.
In maths we are learning to round numbers to ten, one hundered and one thousand. We have found a great song on the internet called the Rounding Song we have also been trying to remember the rounding rhyme to help us. You can help your child by giving them different numbers to round up or down.

In science, we have been learning about tooth decay. We are currently carrying out an 'eggperiment' using different liquids and how they may affect the enamel on our teeth. We also had a go at making our own toothpaste which smelled nice but felt quite grainy.
Week Commencing 1 September 2025
Dear Families,
The children have settled in brilliantly during the first week of term. Their enthusiasm, curiosity, and positive attitude have made for a fantastic start, and it’s clear they are ready and eager to learn.
