Dear Parents/Carers,
Happy New Year toyou all and your families.
Staff. Miss Randall and Mrs Phillips are the Year 2 teachers, they and Year 2 will be supported this year by Mrs Bowyer and Mrs Bates who will run interventions to fill gaps in your children’s knowledge. Mrs Phillips will be working Monday and Tuesday and Miss Randall will be working Tuesday - Friday.
Reading. Reading books will be changed on Mondays. Please try to read with your child daily as it makes such a difference to their learning. The children are encouraged to write their own comments in their reading diaries. However, could you please still sign to acknowledge that they have read at home.
Spelling. Our spelling scheme focuses on phonics graphemes and spelling strategies, Spellings will be sent out, along with an explanation of expectations.
Show and Tell. There will be no show and tell due to Covid-19 as we try to limit the amount of items brought into school.
Homework. This will be given out on a Friday and will need to be returned to school by the following Wednesday am. We will issue English and Maths tasks which will be sent home on alternate weeks. The tasks give you an insight into what we have been learning in class and offers a talking point with your child. Due to a busy timetable, incomplete or unfinished homework will be completed during Golden Time. Additionally, there will also be a half-term project which is linked to our topic.
P.E. Children will be required to attend in their PE kit on their PE day, which will be a Tuesday for year 2, to limit the amount of items brought into school from their homes.
Water and snacks. It is important that the children have their own named water bottle in school. We will try our best to ensure that the children bring it home each night in order for it to be refilled. These must only be filled with water as we are “a healthy school”. The children are provided with a healthy snack.
If you have any concerns or queries, at any time, do not hesitate contact the office to arrange a phone meeting. We’re extremely approachable and believe that by working together we will achieve the best for your child. The best time to speak to us is after school as the mornings are usually very busy setting up for the days learning.
Thank you for your support.
Mrs Phillips and Miss Randall

In the event of the your child being ill or school is closed the pack of work you need is here. You can collect a hard copy form the school office. Those children in school are bringing home their learning packs as well as extra books to read and their maths and english homework books. Their english books can be used to record their writing. Please visit this page regularly for more activities for your children. Take care Mrs Holland
The children have settled in really well and have been working really hard and getting into the way Year 2 works. The children are learning to be more independent. I know it must be frustrating when they leave belonging behind in school but I am trying very hard to get them to take responsibility for their own belongings.
Hopefully you will have all read the information below but here is a copy for you.
Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome to Year 2
We hope that you have all had a happy Summer and are ready for a busy and fruitful year. We will be working very hard on developing the children’s independence and appreciate your support in this. Although this year will be challenging for the children we will ensure that the children are happy, motivated and really enjoy coming to school. We will try to make everything as fun as possible. Just after Christmas we will be holding a meeting specifically for SATS.
Staff- As you are aware Mrs Holland is the class teacher for 2PH and Mrs Hudson for 2NH.
Reading- Reading books are changed on Mondays. Please try to read with your child daily as it makes such a difference to their learning. The children will be getting certificates for reading regularly at home.
Spellings- These will be given out for the half term next week. Children will be informally tested on these spellings on a Friday.
Topic- Our topic this term is ”Healthy Humans” with a big focus on Food. If the children have any books or artefacts related to the topic they are welcome to bring them in for us to share during the half term. Please ensure that everything is clearly labelled so that we can return things to their owners! We are sending a copy home of our topic web and in the next few weeks more information will be available on our class pages on the website.
Equipment- In Year 2 the children are allowed to bring in their own pencil cases to use in some lessons. This is entirely voluntary and can be kept in their trays or they can bring them in daily. We are planning to do more outdoor activities so we would like the children to have a pair of wellies and some old trousers or joggers to keep in school. Please put them in a labelled bag.
Homework- This is given out on Fridays and needs to be returned to school by the following Wednesday am. In line with the School Homework Policy English and Maths tasks will be sent home alternate weeks. Each half term there will be a project to complete.
P.E. – Please ensure that the children have their P.E kits in school at all times. P.E will be on Tuesdays.
Water and snacks- It is important that the children have their own named water bottle in school. We will try our best that the children bring it home each night in order for it to be refilled. The children are provided with fresh fruit or raisins each day at break time.
If you have any concerns or queries at any time do not hesitate to write us a note or come and see us. You can also send us an email via the school office. We’re extremely approachable and believe that working together we will achieve the best for your child. The best times to see us is after school.
Thank you for your support.
