Summer Term

30 Days Wild

Throughout the month of June we are taking part in Staffordshire Wild Life Trust's 30 Days Wild initiative. Each day we are trying to get in touch a little with nature. So far we have: hugged a tree, felt the grass in our toes, been on a sensory walk, watched a live web cam, been cloud spotting, meditated outside, read a book in the grass.

Week commencing 20th June 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

In maths this week, we have been learning about different ways to represent our data such as tally charts, tables, bar charts and line graphs.  We posed the question,' What is the most popular brand of trainer in Year 4?' and surveyed the children and collected the data on a tally chart. We then converted the results onto a pictogram before representing them on a bar chart. The children then used the data to ask and answer questions.

In English, we have been learning about the features of persuasive writing so that we can use them in our electrical safety leaflet.

We used drama in science to act out how sound waves travel into the ear and are turned into electrical pulses that the brain can understand.

We have finished our light boxes in DT. The children were very proud of their designs and lighting up their

boxes.

Homework is maths this week, pages 49 & 50 are to be completed and returned to school no later than 29th Jun.

Week Commencing 13th June 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

The big focus in maths this week has been our Multiplication Tables Check which the children did brilliantly at.  Well done to them all for the hardwork and practise they have put in these past few months.  It has certainly paid off.

In English we are going to be writing a leaflet on electrical safety. The children are currently identifying the features of a leaflet. If when you're out and about and see a leaflet why not pick it up and discuss it with your child.  See if they can tell you some of the features.

On Wednesday we had the Dogs Trust come in and talk to us about being safe around dogs. It was really interesting to hear how we should let our dogs come to us for a stroke rather then going up to them and hugging them tightly.

We also had the smoothie bike come into school. The children were very excited to make their own smoothie and ride the bike. They were very cautious with their selection of ingredients playing it safe with no chilli or ginger.

Week Commencing 2nd May 2022

The children have been practising their multiplication tables this week and we can see that their hard work is now starting to pay off.

This week in science, we have been learning to make circuits. The children were given lots of different components and asked to try and connect them together to make a working circuit. The children were thrilled when they successfully made buzzers ring and bulbs light up. They were very good at problem solving their circuits in order to get them working.

Homework this week is the times tables sheet. Children should try and complete each MTC within 5 minutes.

Week commencing 25th April 2022

We have had a great first week back at school after the Easter holidays. The children looked brilliant on Wednesday for Shakespeare Day and have been learning lots about the bard.

In maths, we are continuing with our work on decimals. The children have been finding this tricky but we are starting to get there.

Our topic this term is Electricity and Sound. We began this week by learning about an appliance is providing examples of appliances.

Homework is English. Pages 9 and 10 are to be completed and returned to school no later than Wednesday 4th May (Star Wars Day!)
